Growing in Unity - Day 1 You Are Loved

Welcome to my blog and to my first day as the featured Growing in Unity Girl, here's a wee intro for all of you newcomers;

My name is Suzi McKenzie, I'm 42 and I live in Aberdeen, Scotland with my hubby Stewart and our 3 cats. I no longer work due to health problems, Fibromyalgia, Anxiety, etc, so Crafting is my therapy and my first true love.

I've been crafting all my life, I love to create Cards, Mixed Media Paintings/Canvases, ATCs, Altered Art, Calenders;  I can also turn my hand to other crafts including knitting, crochet, jewellery making, drawing and painting.

I have been blogging since 2007, and have been lucky to work on some wonderful design teams since my first guest spot with The Greeting Farm in 2009.

I discovered Unity Stamp Company in 2010 when I was lucky enough to design for 'Make the Day Special' who were the only sellers of Unity Stamps in the UK.

My style is pretty eclectic, I love bright colours and making cheerful creations, but I have a pretty dark sense of humour, so like to create quirky darker creations too. I love adding texture to my projects and I'm not afraid to try something new, you'll find a few projects on my blog that I'm still not completely happy with, but they are all learning experiences, and help me grow as an artist.

I currently design for Oddball Art Stamps  and have been focusing on more mixed media creations over the last few months.  I love being able to combine rubberstamping with mixed media pieces aswell as creating cards and other papercrafts.

I'm so excited to be sharing the 'Growing in Unity' experience with you all, and hope you have as much fun reading about how I create my projects, as I've had creating them.

I love social media and how it makes this big world a little smaller, I've been lucky enough to make some wonderful friends though this wonderful online crafty world we live in. I love to share my projects with like minded people, If you'd like to join me on my crafty adventures, please follow me or send me a friend request on any of my links.

Ok enough waffle from me, Here is my project;
For my project I've used one of the first Unity Stamps I was lucky enough to own; the gorgeous 'You Are Loved' by Suzi Blu. Such a beautiful image, I love Suzi's quirky style.

My project is an Altered Index Card; I added Kitchen Towel, old Book Pages, and Tissues tape to the card then added some white Gesso.

I then used stamps from the 'Vibes' set by Jolande & Marlene with Pink and Teal Archival Ink to add some interest to my background.   I stamped my main image onto another index card that i'd prepared, then trimmed it to add to my background.

I coloured my image with Derwent Inktense Pencils, and added some of the same colours to the background to tie it all together.

To finish my index card I added some brushstrokes and doodles with a Faber Castell PITT pen.

That's all from me for today, don't forget to leave a comment to be in with a chance of winning some awesome Unity Stamps. Come back tomorrow for my next project.

Thanks for visiting with me today
Have a Wonderful Day
hugs
Suzi

Fantastic project. I love your style

Hello from Atlanta GA USA.
I too struggle with numerous auto immune diseases that throw me for an endless cycle of flare ups and crafts are my way to keep sane.

I look forward to seeing your creations this week and being a regular visitor in the future

I've always wanted to go to all the countries in the U.K.

I love quirky images like this, too, and Suzy Blu is a master.
Your card is gorgeous, love the colors and the wonderful mixed
media dimension. I am wanting to do more mixed media myself so
I'm always grateful for inspiration like this.

I have not mastered this mixed media style... and I totally love it. So happy to see your work this week... definitely going to "follow". It's funny how life throws us such difficult things to deal with and out of them comes beauty and creativity. I've got all kinds of health problems and I turned to crafting and the internet as well ... it's a lot more fun making something beautiful and interesting than dwelling on your problems... and I love the online crafters... wonderful, sharing people!
