Mix It Up with Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel UK Challenge Blog

It's time for some more messy fun with Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel UK Challenge, and this week we want you to 'Mix It Up!';  We want you to mix your Pan Pastels with fluid, any fluid you like, be it water, acrylic paint, mediums, we want to see what you create when you get your Pan Pastels wet!!

Before I go any further, a little warning!! Do Not Add Water Directly to Your Pan Pastel Pan. Add your Pan Pastel to the fluid in some sort of mixing container, please don't contaminate your Pan Pastel Pans with water, as this will affect the lifespan of your Pan Pastels.  Use a super soft brush to dust some Pan Pastel Pigment into your mixing container, then add whatever fluid you desire. End of Warning!!

For my project this week I decided to work on a mini canvas.  I chose the Maimeri Iridescent Paste as my main fluid for this project, mixing it in a plastic bowl with some Magenta Pan Pastel.  I mixed quite a large amount as I wanted to see how well the Iridescent Paste worked in silicone moulds.  I poured the mixture into my moulds on Tuesday, and my letter embellishments were finally dry enough to work with Yesterday (Saturday)  So patience and planning is definitely required.  My letter embellishments turned out a little rough, but that is probably because i kept peeking at them to see if they were setting, I really should leave things alone to dry lol!  Luckily I like the rough look of them for this project.

To create my canvas background I added some water to the empty plastic bowl i'd mixed the Iridescent Paste and Pan Pastel; creating a lovely pearlescent paint which i covered the whole canvas with.  I then sprinkled on some Magenta Pan Pastel, before adding drops of the pearlescent paint.  I left this to dry, and then gave it a good spray with hairspray to make sure the pan pastels stayed on my canvas.

The image is a digital stamp entitled 'Mending a Broken Heart' by Helena Reis available at Sweet Pea Stamps.  She is coloured with the following Graph'It Markers
Skin - 4115, 4155, 4170, 5110, 5115
Hair - 9100, 9102, 7119, 6290
Dress - 5110, 5255, 5280
Gloves - 5110, 5255, 5280, 9102, 7119, 6290
Wings - 9100, 9102, 5115.
I coloured the heart embellishment with 5255. The edge of the Letter Embellishments are coloured with 6290, so is the edge of the canvas.

This was such a fun project to work on, I loved working with the Iridescent Paste, and can't wait to try it with a few more colours of Pan Pastels.  I also love how well the Graph'It Markers work on a project like this, they coloured the paper, canvas and embellishments with ease, giving great coverage and tying all the elements of my project together perfectly.

I hope you'll be inspired to join us in our challenge this week, don't forget to visit the Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel UK Challenge Blog to get full details of our challenge and to see the awesome creations from the rest of the design team.
