Altered Media with Premium Craft Brands

It's a beautiful Sunday morning, and time for a fun new challenge over at the Premium Craft Brands PanPastel Challenge Blog.  This week's challenge is all about Altered Media!!  We want you to take something and give it a brand new lease of life, maybe a new purpose, or just a makeover.

I decided to take an old cardboard ribbon reel and turn it into something different;
I used the Maimeri White Gesso to change the colour and to give me a base to work on.  After leaving this to dry I decided I liked the look of it in White, so decided to go with a white theme for the whole project.  I layered on some Maimeri Glassy Gel Medium and sprinkled on some Iced Crystal Glitter Jewel Flakes I found in my stash the other day.  I then took 3 heart embellishments which i'd made last week using Maimeri Light Modelling Paste and a silicon mould, and attached them to the top of the reel.  I left it to dry overnight. I then added some white leaf ribbon all around the reel, sticking it down with a few glue dots.  I also took a small circle punch and punched out a piece of white card stock, so i could covered the hole on the bottom of the reel.

All i need to do then was put my large hat pins into the centre of the reel, and voila's a pretty little pin pot for some of my hat pins.  Here's a close up of the Heart embellishments;

I love how this project turned out, definitely not my usual colour choice, but it turned out so pretty, and really makes the hat pins look like flowers or jewels.  Very practical too, so much easier to get the pins out of a wee pot like this, than the packaging they came in, hopefully i'll stop pricking myself with them so much.

I hope you'll be inspired to try altering something, and join in our challenge to win some awesome goodies from Premium Craft Brands.  Now hop over to the Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel Challenge Blog and check out the awesome creations from the rest of the Design Team, and get full details on how to join in our challenge.

Have a wonderful blessed day
