Today I'd like to share with you my first DT project as a member of the Premium Craft Brands DT. Our challenge this week is 'Water', we want to see you create water effects on your project, show us your rainy day images, your underwater creations or simply use products to give your project a wet look; To play along you don't need any special products, just follow the theme and have fun!
I love Mermaids, so thought this would be the perfect opportunity to use one of the many beautiful mermaid images I have in my digital stamp collection; This beautiful mermaid comes from Polkadoodles, you'll find her on the Bonbon Belles Double CD along with lots of other wonderful images and papers. I used the following Graph'It Markers to colour my image;
Hair - 1210, 1230, 1280
Skin - 4120, 4125, 5110, 5115
Tail, Eyes & Headband - 7140, 7145, 7155, 7180, 7210, 7240, 7290
Starfish & Make-Up - 2105, 2150
Colouring with the Graph'It Markers is a joy, the inks are so vibrant and blend beautifully, and they are even better if you change the chisel nib for one of the new brush tip nibs. All of the colours i used on this card had the new nibs in them, and I love how easy they are too use, and they taper to the finest point it's quite unbelievable and makes getting into small areas a piece of cake.
To create my background I took some of my Ultimate Graphic Paper and using three different embossing folders, created some watery looking papers. To make them look more like water I used the following Pan Pastels;
560.1 Phthalo Blue Ex. Dark
560.3 Phthalo Blue Shade
580.3 Turquoise Shade
580.5 Turquoise
920.5 Metallic Silver.
To give the impression of some bubbles and mix the textures up a little, I punched some circles from my 3 background papers in two different sizes. I added some Maimeri Acrylic Glassy Gel Medium to four of these circles to give them a wet look.
I took an 8 x 8 inch card blank and layered on some plain blue paper before adding two of my background papers. I added some of the punched circles into the contrasting patterned paper as well as adding a few to the blue paper to look like bubbles.
Before layering my image onto plain blue paper, I used a corner and border punch to create a bubbly punched frame around my image. I then added my image to the card using some foam pads for dimension.
I hope you feel inspired to join in our challenge, hop over to the Premium Crafts Brands Pan Pastel UK Challenge Blog to get full details of our challenge and to check out the awesome creations from the rest of our very talented design team.
