Falling Leaves with Premium Craft Brands

It's Sunday and time to get creative with Premium Craft Brands Pan Pastel UK's New Challenge.

Our theme this week is 'Falling Leaves', something we're seeing a lot of at the moment with Autumn well and truly being here.

For my project I wanted to do something with some real leaves.  I collected some Fallen Leaves whilst out earlier this week, and got our my Maimeri Glassy Gel Medium and some wax paper.  I put a thick layer of the medium over half my wax paper, then added my leaves and some more medium.  I folded the wax paper to cover it all, and gave it a good squish.  I then sandwiched my wax paper between some scrap papers and placed a heavy book on top.  I left it for a good 24 hours or so to give the medium time to dry.  I then removed it from the wax paper.  It was still a little damp, so i put it into the airing cupboard and left it to dry for another 24 hours or so.

Once my leaf sheet was dry I noticed you could really see the light through it, so decided to turn it into a light catcher.  To do this I needed to create some frames.  For this i used some dark green cardstock which I trimmed down to 6 inch square, covered with some clear embossing ink, followed by lots of Copper and Bronze Pan Pastels.  I placed my two squares of card with the Pan Pastelled side facing each other, then got our my large circle dies, to create the two frames for my light catcher.

Once die cut I sandwiched the leaf sheet between the frame pieces using my ATG to glue them together.  Here's some close ups of the two framed pieces;

This is the largest piece at just under 6 inchs in diameter.

This is the frame created from the middle of the largest frame.  The solid centre pieces I glued together an added to the bottom of my project to give the impression of a solid copper circle.

I used some dark red organza ribbon to join my circles together and create a loop at the top for it to be hung.  I've photographed it against a white wall, as it's really quite dark here at the moment.  But on the next bright day, I'll try and get some pictures of it with the light shining through, it really does look pretty when lit up.
