StampInsanity Challenge#18 - Radical Ribbons & Rockin' Rhinestones

Uncoil your ribbons and shine up those sparklies!  What awesome new ways can you come up with to use these embellisments?

For this weeks challenge i decided to use Jack from the 'What the Heart Wants' collection of digistamps by StampInsanity, i'd definately choose him, lol!!  I printed Jack out on an A5 sheet of cardstock, fullsize, so he took up most of the page, I then chopped his legs off (ouch!!).  I wanted to show how it's possible to make quite large cards using digital stamps.  The card base i chose is 8" x 8" with an embossed spotty frame; I chose a piece of patterned paper from the 'Funky Vintage' set of papers by Dovecraft.

I decided to try my hand at sewing a sentiment with my ribbon, I kept it very simple and just went for the word 'Love'.  I practised on a scrap of card first, writing the word in pencil and then pricking holes where i needed to bring my ribbon through the card.  Once i was happy with my practise piece, i took the ribbon out of it, and used the card as a template on the back of my patterned paper.  I pricked the holes, and then using a thin blue ribbon, i sew on the sentiment.   I then mounted my patterned paper on some blue cardstock.  To coordinate with the sentiment i created a frame around the piece of patterned paper using a blanket stitch. By putting the patterned paper on some cardstock I made it alot easier to sew the frame.  I then mounted this whole piece on my card base using foam pads to give some dimension.

I coloured Jack with my prismacolour pencils, before cutting him out, and attaching him with foam pads to my background.  All that was left to do, was to add some Rhinestones to my creation.  Using the pattern of the paper as a guide, i added some gold and blue gems, along with a few heart gems.  To finish is all off, I added some clear gems to the embossed spotty frame of my card to tie it all together.

I had great fun with this card, and i'm sure i'll be trying to create other hand sewn sentiments for my cards.  Now it's time for you to hop over to the StampInsanity Blog to check out the awesome creations that the rest of the Groovy Gurlz have to share with you today.
