Happy Birthday Mummy :)

Today is a very special day, because it is my Mummy's birthday, so i had to make a special card for a special lady.  My Mum loves anything oriental, especially Chinese, so i decided to create a little Chinese Girl for her card.  My friend Ju had been kind enough to stamp me out a few of the new Wild Sprouts from The Greeting Farm that i don't have yet; and i knew Stella would be perfect for this card.

I altered Stella slightly, i basically cut away her outfit, and using my lightbox, i drew her new dress.  I drew the dress onto a scrap of white paper first, and made a few alterations to my lines, then using this drawing, i traced the dress onto this gorgeous lilac chinese dragon paper (another beautiful present from my friend Ju). I coloured Stella with my promarkers.

I then set about choosing my papers for the rest of the card; I used the dragon paper as my starting point, and went through my papers choosing patterned papers that coordinated with it.  I ended up with five patterned papers that all worked nicely together.  I had seen a faux quilt background on Splitcoaststampers, and decided this would be perfect.  I punched out squares of the patterned papers, and arranged them in a quilt like pattern.  I glued them to a scrap of white card, and then used my Top Note Die to create my quilt; I also cut a lilac Top Note to layer behind my quilt.

Then it was time to start assembling the card.  I cut a piece of stripy green paper slightly smaller than my card base and stuck this down.  I then created the central band, i cut some lilac card and used a border punch on it to give me a nice edge, then i layered on a couple of strips of patterned paper to tie it in to my quilt background.  Before sticking the central band down, i used some lilace organza ribbon to create a bow, and stuck the ribbon to the central band before sticking it to my card base.  I then added my quilted die cut, and my little chinese Stella, i used foam pads on Stella to give her a bit more dimension.

To finish my card I stamped the 'Happy Birthday' sentiment, and embossed it.  Then using circle punches i cut the sentiment out, along with some larger circles, and layered them all together, before sticking them to my card.

I'm really happy with the finished card, and i'm sure my Mum will love it.  I'm also pleased that i managed to use 5 different patterened papers on my card, as this weeks Wild Card Wednesday Challenge at Club Anya & Friends was to do exactly that; I didn't think i'd manage that, and like the end result.

Thank you for stopping by, and have a great week all.

Edit:  I'm entering this card into this weeks challenge over at Quixotic Challenges, their challenge is right up my street.  The challenge it to alter a TGF stamp, so my gorgeous little Stella fits perfectly. Quixotic Paperie is one of my favourite UK based craft stores, the perfect place for TGF, and Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps to name but a few, and the service is excellent. The only problem i have with them, is they have far too many pretty things, and i don't have enough money tehe!!
